White Hall Bulldogs Release 2023 Football Schedule
Plus: Pine Bluff Zebra Landon Holcomb hits a home run; football standout Marquez Brentley, Jr. leaves the Watson Chapel Wildcats
Here we go! Another week is upon us.
While everyone was away on spring break last week, I worked on some projects outside of the Human Side of Sports realm. I wrote a story about NIL bills filed in the Arkansas legislature for Arkansas Advocate. House Bill 1649 may look good on the outside but when you deep dive into it, but it only benefits student athletes who sign a letter of intent with an Arkansas school.
“This bill [HB1649] is about control,” said Byron Jenkins of Arkansas Athlete Connection, a website that serves as a booking agent for Arkansas athletes. “NIL is about allowing the athlete to profit off of their own image whether they want to sell a T-shirt with their name and image on it, sell an autograph, whatever product they want to sell. That should be allowed.”
Other flash news: I got word tonight that Class of 2024 football standout Marquez Brentley, Jr., has said goodbye to the Watson Chapel Wildcats and hello to the Pine Bluff Zebras. He started his first day at Pine Bluff High School Monday. His Twitter account reflects the move.
While March Madness marches on, it’s also baseball season! The Zebras won their first baseball game of the season Monday night against the McGehee Owls, 10-2. Junior Landon Holcomb, who also plays Zebra football, hit a homerun in the sixth inning.
Also hot off the presses, the 5A White Hall Bulldogs, coached by former Razorback quarterback and NFL player Ryan Mallett, dropped their 2023 football schedule tonight on Instagram.
Spotted on Twitter: Great advice from a coach for recruits.
